APPEARANCE

Joseph is 18 years old, tall (195 cm/6'5"), and powerfully built, with light eyes. He has short, dark, and unkempt hair, parts of his bangs shooting outwards in spikes, apart from which he closely resembles his grandfather Jonathan Joestar. Suzi Q finds his mouth weird looking, and an Esidisi-possessed-Suzi Q bizarrely calls him handsome.

Joseph's primary outfit is relatively minimal and pragmatic. He wears a tank top cut above the navel, gloves studded at the knuckles, fitting pants with a leather belt, and knee-high leather boots. In Switzerland, he dons a long, broad, striped scarf; and later, as a posthumous gift from Caesar, a long, thin headband patterned with a row of tessellated triangles.

Initially, he wears a white collared shirt with a tie and suspenders, and a greatcoat chequered across the shoulders. During the fight against Straizo, Joseph uses an M1928 Thompson submachine gun with a 50-round drum magazine. Other articles include an aviator's hat (as motorcycle gear), a knit cap, and a breathing mask designed for Ripple training. After Kars cuts off his left hand, Joseph has it replaced with a mechanical prosthetic, courtesy of Stroheim, which can already convincingly mimic human movements.

Joseph's resemblance to Jonathan was a result of the times, as having the main character die was unprecedented in a Weekly Shonen Jump story so Araki thought it'd be fitting to make the next protagonist resemble the last one to ease readers into the story. Later depictions of Joseph include the aviator hat and goggles, both of which were permanently added to differentiate him from Jonathan and compliment the overall "mechanical feel" brought about by the various planes and motorcycles present in Part 2

Jonathan Joestar (ジョナサン・ジョースター, Jonasan Jōsutā) is the main protagonist of the first part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Phantom Blood, and the first JoJo of the series. His legacy extends throughout almost the entirety of the first six parts of the series, with major characters such as Joseph Joestar and Jotaro Kujo being his descendants.

Jonathan is the son of the wealthy businessman George Joestar I and Mary Joestar He is an honest, kind, and positive man whose life is fraught with tragedy after meeting his adopted older brother Dio Brando. In his battle against Dio, Jonathan becomes a Hamon user under the tutelage of his master Will Anthonio Zeppeli.

APPEARANCE

ChildHood

Adhering to the norms of the Victorian era, Jonathan's childhood attire at age twelve consisted of a collared shirt, breeches, and a pair of long socks with dress shoes. This was either accompanied by a blazer, vest, and tie, or a pair of suspenders. As a nobleman, he'd sometimes replace the tie with a ribbon like his father's.

  • When boxing, he wears a casual boxing outfit consisting of a tank top, shorts, and boxing gloves.
  • During his time with Erina, Jonathan also dons a Newsboy cap and a pair of knee-high boots.
  • When treading in the river, he wears a striped two-piece swimsuit.

Adult Years

As a twenty-year-old adult, Jonathan is a tall (195 cm/6'5"), extremely muscular individual with a gentlemen's poise. His typical attire tends to reflect his noble background, characterized by stylized tunics over long-sleeve shirts. Reoccurring articles of clothing include a cravat, bow tie, thick boots, and a vest.

While he's not depicted bearing the Star Birthmark in the manga, adaptations like the 2000 OVA and the 2012 anime depict him with it.

  • At home, Jonathan wears semi-formal attire consisting of a collared shirt, tie, and jacket with rolled-up sleeves.
  • During University Rugby matches, he wears a standard striped rugby shirt and pants with long socks.
  • When he sets out to Ogre Street to find a cure for his father's illness, Jonathan dons an entirely new outfit made up of a padded jacket and pants, complete with a deerstalker cap and a long cloak.
  • During his training with Zeppeli, he strips down to a stylized tank top with wristbands, and at some point a circlet.
  • On his quest to Windknight's Lot, Jonathan dons a double-layered tunic with a bow tie and Deerstalker cap.
  • After his fight with Tarkus, he wears a close-fitted tank top with capped sleeves for the rest of the journey. In the anime, these sleeves are converted into shoulder pads.
  • During his honeymoon and final encounter with Dio, he wears an ornate suit with a long tail over a collared shirt with straps on the shoulders and a cravat.
  • Modern depictions of Jonathan show him wearing a headband patterned with triangles much similar to the one both Caesar and Joseph don.

PERSONALITIES

During his childhood, Jonathan was proud and mischievous, yet gentle. Despite already aspiring to be a "true gentleman", Jonathan lacked manners and mostly behaved like a normal child. His mother, having died before he could remember her, and his fellow boys ostracizing him because of his status left Jonathan somewhat lonely. While at first, Jonathan didn't have his future strength of will, Dio unwittingly became the catalyst of his growth by pushing him to the edge and humiliating his girlfriend Erina Pendleton. However, he did have the kindness and courage to immediately jump to Erina's rescue against two bullies bigger than him despite not knowing her.

Regarding Jonathan as a character Araki has stated that Jonathan was difficult for him to design. He wanted to create a "first Joestar" that could function as a symbol of purity and dignity rather than a unique, fresh character. This is reflected in his goals and character, Jonathan strives to become a "true gentleman." He carries his Joestar name with pride, never betraying the code of conduct he has set for himself, and will treat any fellow human with respect unless they prove evil.

Jonathan also possesses a fierce inner strength and the drive to face and overcome conflict, which Dio calls an "explosive power". That drive, fueled by his affection for his friends and loved ones, enabled him to overcome the direst situations, notably managing to save his wife Erina when their boat was overcome with zombies and he was fatally wounded. Jonathan fights for what he believes in, and once he is committed to something, he won't back down until the deed is done. During his journey to find a cure for his father's illness, he was ambushed by a band of misfit hoodlums. He did not so much as flinch as he grasped an assailant's knife within his hand, saying he had much more riding on the fight than merely four fingers.

As a gentleman, Jonathan is also kind and positive. Jonathan has a mindset where he tries to imagine the consequences his actions would have on other people, even if they appear to be enemies. He is gentle and sympathetic, feeling pain even as he vanquishes a zombified policeman. Despite his skill in fighting, he will never seriously harm a person without a valid reason. Even after everything Dio has done, Jonathan still considers him his brother, and sheds tears for him. His courteous nature as well as his mental fortitude and ability to withstand fear and pain is the main reason Speedwagon decides to aid him on his journey. During his life, Jonathan has always had an impulse to save others, beginning with Erina, and ending with his thought of a nearby baby just as he was agonizing from Dio's attack.

Yet Jonathan can feel righteous fury at the evilness of his foes and will conduct justice by vanquishing them. He admitted that his reason for fighting Dio wasn't out of duty for saving the world, but to avenge his loved ones that Dio had killed. Moreover, he does not pity truly despicable individuals he is not familiar with such as Doobie.

With his courage and spirit, Jonathan sets a legacy as the first JoJo of the series.

In Part 6, Jotaro again wears a dark overcoat; this time of more detail. Lines ring the top and the base of his collar; joining to run the length of the coat's opening. The surface of his collar bears two star pins, with one on the inside, along with a small chain piercing the left. Two lines run the top of the shoulders, with two more radiating from his collar to their sides. Two zips lie between the chest and the stomach. The sides of the shoulders bear large stars, beginning a light stripe reaching his cuffs (also bearing a star) that reads "JOJO", repeatedly. A line runs from the armpit to the end of the coat.

He wears a light under-shirt, printed at the chest with a large star. His shoes and pants are of a piece in a snakeskin texture. He wears a single leather belt, studded in two rows, folded behind itself after the buckle.

Jotaro's torn, blending cap is also again dark. The visor is square, with a subtle arch. A light gold bar at its joint maintains a gold palm emblem like his original. Two lines run the top of the visor, while a widened star spans the front of the crown, its topmost point running onto the top.

However, unfortunately in Part 6: Stone Ocean, Jotaro met his death. Even though in the manga or anime, Jotaro is still alive, the current Jotaro is not like before, like a different person.

Jotaro died in part six of the manga Stone Ocean. During one of Pucci's attacks where he tossed blades at Jolyne and Jotaro immediately stopped time to forestall it. Jotaro now has two options, Save his girl.
Jotaro dies in Part 6 Stone Ocean. Jotaro and the crew were in a pickle with Pucci and how his Time Acceleration was boosting his speed by the second. During one of Pucci's attacks where he threw knives at Jolyne and Jotaro quickly stopped time to prevent it.

But there is some conspiration and some facts. Well yes he technically dies in part 6 but when Emporio kills Pucci, Jotaro and all the other characters are still alive. In the end Jotaro is still alive. He died but the reset revived Jotaro, Jolyne, Hermes, etc. The only difference now is that Pucci doesn't exist in this universe anymore. That means Jotaro at the end of Stone Ocean still is the same Jotaro except that he never met pucci and all other characters from part 6 like Donatello, Rykiel etc. The fact that Jolyne's name now is Irene is because pucci not existing somehow influenced the universe and thus her name. Jotaro, Giorno and Josuke are alive so in the end this is a happy ending, no doubt.

Jotaro wears a modified trenchcoat-length gakuran/tsume-eri with a tall, stiff collar, pierced on the left with a golden chain. Underneath, he wears a fitted, sleeveless shirt and a pair of slim-fitting ¥20,000 pants of very short, sharp flares held up by two thin belts, often differently colored, patterned in a row of alternately colored tessellated triangles (reflecting Caesar/Joseph's headband). He also wears a pair of leather shoes (presumably) without socks.

Jotaro's iconic cap is adorned near the center with a golden button and, on its left, a rectangular golden plate with a design of a flattened hand. It is torn at the back, appearing to merge with his hair. While they are first shown as being completely separate but slightly torn, later publications cause more uncertainty as to where his hat and his hair actually meet. According to Araki in an interview, he wanted readers to recognize Jotaro even from his back, and not just his forefront.

Also, Jotaro have a stand in his first appearance named Star Platinum. Star Platinum is a close-range Stand, with a basic reach of only 2 meters from Jotaro's body, but with incredible strength, speed, and precision.

It is one of the most powerful Stands featured in the series. Its overwhelming physical prowess in every basic characteristic, save for range, coupled with Jotaro's own cleverness in combat, allows Jotaro to repeatedly prevail against many Stand users even without the usage of any special ability. In addition, Jotaro's discovery of its time-stopping ability only made it all the more formidable in combat.

The Star Platinum (Part 3 (Before Meet Dio) has many abilities such like:

  • Super Strength: Star Platinum possesses immense strength, being able to throw a Jeep carrying four men and a girl out of the path of an 18-wheeler with one hand, later pulling the same Jeep out of a canyon with only a car as a counter-weight, and destroy large artificial diamonds within seconds.
  • Super Speed: Star Platinum boasts phenomenal speed. It was able to intercept a bullet fired from point-blank range, briefly contended with Silver Chariot (whilst it was using Anubis), and is stated to exceed the speed of light.
  • Self-Preservation: Star Platinum possesses the awareness and reaction speed to protect Jotaro in many instances that he himself seems unaware; halting a bullet he experimentally shoots at his own head; protecting him while frozen by DIO's Time Stop; reviving him from near-death by directly pumping his heart.
  • Precision: Star Platinum is incredibly precise; it can surgically remove an object embedded in a person's skull without ill effect, catch both a bullet and a minuscule Stand like Lovers between his thumb and forefinger in midair, and create a near photo-realistic drawing of a small Egyptian fly from a dark, blurry photo.
  • Enhanced Eyesight: Star Platinum utilizes eagle-like eyesight throughout Stardust Crusaders. Jotaro has used Star Platinum's eyes to see four kilometers across a desert, as well as identify meaningful details, such as a specific type of fly in high-resolution images. It can also follow a card shuffle performed by a professional gambler, subsequently recounting the entire new order of the deck.
  • Enhanced Breath: Star Platinum inhales with superhuman power, capable of sucking in the entire fog Stand Justice and holding it long enough for its user to suffocate.
  • Ora Ora Rush (突きの連打オラオララッシュ Ora Ora Rasshu, lit. "Barrage of Strikes"): Star Platinum's primary method of attack. It throws an extremely fast but precise barrage of powerful punches to pulverize an opponent or destroy objects.
  • Star Finger (流星指刺スターフィンガー Sutā Fingā, lit. "Meteor Finger Thorn"): Star Platinum can forcibly extend its middle and index fingers to a length of one or two meters, allowing it to perform sneak attacks and stab opponents from afar. The technique's frequency of usage decreased as the battles intensified

Also, The Star Platinum (Part 3 (After Meet Dio) has abilities such like:

Time Stop

When activated, Star Platinum is able to halt the flow of time for a brief moment, causing everything around him to appear frozen in place. During this time-lapse, Jotaro is able to interact with any object or person within his range. Measures of time during Time Stop correspond to normal measures, as shown by Jotaro's unwilling reduction in the duration of Time Stop affected by Made in Heaven. He is unable to use the ability consecutively, requiring a few seconds in between each usage.

In Jotaro's prime, the ability lasted 5 seconds, but decreased over time due to neglect from its user. Ten years after its initial use, Jotaro is only able to stop time for half a second, but eventually extends it to 1-2

In Part 4, Jotaro's outfit undergoes a massive change from Stardust Crusaders, in addition to the outfit itself undergoing several transitions during Diamond is Unbreakable. Each features his trademark combination of a visored cap and a trench coat. He wears wide-legged pants, and his hat, coat and pants are typically depicted as white.

In his first outfit, he wears a trench coat with the collar folded back and cuffs that feature the same tessellated pattern as his belts. Underneath the coat is a jumper of sorts over a stiff high-collared shirt; a buckled strap also runs diagonally across his chest. His hat has a metallic "J" emblem added to his earlier palm, now enclosed by a heart.

His second outfit, first worn during the Let's Go Hunting! story arc, features a style reminiscent of his school uniform with an upturned coat collar and a single fitted shirt. His hat's emblems are replaced with a dolphin and sun, while his coat features a metallic emblem of two dolphins forming a heart on the right shoulder and a set square with the trademark palm symbol on the left.

His final outfit features a coat with a similar style to the second outfit, but has the tessellated cuffs that were present in the first. Underneath, Jotaro wears a small, open, lapel-less waistcoat patterned with alternating circles and crosses over a black turtleneck with the palm emblem on the neck. His hat has a row of black Venus symbols (♀) with an arrow at the bottom of the cross, that way, making them resemble anchors, along with another palm emblem. His two belts are no longer patterned, but the bottom has a small pouch attached to it, also sporting the palm emblem.
